what does the tag YA mean?
Young Adult, as in Young Adult books.
It’s fascinating to see the ways in which reading young adult fiction has affected so many people’s lives. I think it highlights the importance of books in general and not just YA fiction. The Twitter trend is in response to this article on The Wall Street Journal.

I'm making a list of books to read. I like Young Adult fiction - mostly sports books, happy ending romance books, and books about musicians. Any recommendations?
For sports books I’m at a loss, but If I Stay and Where I Went by Gayle Forman are both romance books about music and musicians and are very well written. This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen and The Disenchantments by Nina LaCour also feature musicians. Chopsticks by Jessica Anthony is also a good one, though it’s less of a novel and more of a story told through a scrapbook.
As for happy ending romance books, I loved Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins, 13 Little Blue Envelopes by Maureen Johnson and Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan. I hope that helps!

I'm looking to move away from reading young adult books and read some more advanced books that are equally as good but I bit more grown up. I'll read just about anything and am currently reading The Shining, do you have any suggestions for transition books or just great books in general? Can't wait to spend my Barnes and Noble Christmas money! P.s. Love your blog!!
I would recommend The Time Traveler’s Wife, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and The Kite Runner. And thank you!

Can you recommend books that have like a fake-dating trope. Preferably young adult, but im open to anything. I just finished reading fill-in boyfriend by kassie west, and im excited to read books like that. Thanks. 😊
To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han is a good one. Does any one else have more ideas?

What are your favourite young adult books?
I think my favourites are The Fault In Our Stars, The Book Thief, I Am The Messenger, The Outsiders, The Hunger Games, The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau Banks and The Miseducation of Cameron Post.
Here is my list of must read books for teens. However, they’re not necessarily my favourites, since some of them were chosen because I thought they contained things (themes, characters, issues) that are important for teens to read about.

Maybe it's just me, but I find this whole discussion a bit strange. When I was 12, I was reading things like Lolita and Wuthering Heights and Cloud Atlas... I've never liked young-adult books because (at least all the ones I've read) are in my opinion childish, clichéd and boringly written (yes I'm looking at you Paper Towns and Twilight and The Perks of Being a Wallflower). And about sex in books.. many television series and films show it, so children are already familiar and 'used' to it.
I’m not sure if this comment is about the sex in TFIOS or 50 Shades…. If the former, then I agree about it not being a big deal. Kids have definitely seen worst.
I’m not going to say too much about the article, but I will say that if you write YA novels it is not a smart move to insult the people who read your books. Or your fellow YA authors.
And I also think that the authors of this article need to read more Young Adult books, since there are a lot of brilliant YA authors who do pour over sentences trying to find the perfect turn of phrase.
Anyways, end rant. You can read the article here: http://www.slate.com/id/2296056/pagenum/all/#p2
