Where are you going to school to become a library technician? I've always wanted to do that

I live in Ontario, Canada and the colleges that offer that program are Algonquin, Conestoga, Durham, Humber, Mohawk and Seneca. I want to go to Seneca, since they have an accelerated program for people who already have degrees. The accelerated program is 12 months, all the others are 2 years.

what's concurrent education?

Oops, I probably should have explained! Concurrent education is a program where you are working towards your Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education together, instead of completing your BA then applying to teacher’s college.

Have you considered getting a Masters of Library Science?

I really did at one point but I only ended up getting a 3 year BA (you need to do 4 years to do your masters.) Not to sound like a Debbie Downer, but I really didn’t think I’d get in, or be able to handle the program. I was getting really sick of uni, and to be honest I’m not sure I want to be a librarian. You think I’d have it all figured out by now but I am horrible at making decisions.

I got a kindle today and for the first time since I've been buying ebooks I realized I had bought 100 of them. I'm a freak! *giggle* is there a 12 step program to giving up books?

Haha, I don’t think there is because someone would have signed me up by now! Have fun with your kindle and your ebooks!

Another Hiatus

Tomorrow I’m leaving to spend two months in India, which sounds sort of random but I’ve wanted to go for a long time. I’m going to being some traveling and some teaching in a volunteer program, but hopefully I have enough in my queue that I’ll at least post a little bit each day.

Thanks for the follow! :)
What camera do you use? You have great quality! Haha! :))

You take some great photos yourself! Photos taken by me are usually with my Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT. Pictures of bookshops are usually taken with my smaller camera, a Canon PowerShot ELPH 100 HS. And thank you!

Thank you! For most of my pictures I use a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT. Anything in bookshops is with my Canon Powershot ELPH 100 HS.

There are no Jack Kerouacs or Holden Caulfields for girls. Literary girls don’t take road-trips to find themselves; they take trips to find men.

“Great” books, as defined by the Western canon, didn’t contain female protagonists I could admire. In fact, they barely contained female protagonists at all.

things that are canon in a series of unfortunate events:

  • lemony snicket once almost drowned in an italian restaurant
  • zombies in the snow: the musical
  • vfd secret headquarters kept getting burnt down by their enemies because they were all built out of easily identifiable green wood
  • a passcode lock which required an essay on Anna Karenina
  • r, the duchess of winnipeg (a canadian city and definitely not a duchy)
  • the Virginian Wolfsnake, which you should never let near a typewriter
  • beatrice baudelaire wrote lemony snicket a 200 page novel to friendzone him

Could you give any tips for taking photos of books? Your pictures are beautiful! my camera is a Fujifilm digital 12.2 mega pixels and I'm not sure how I make my pictures look better and which setting is best to take the pictures :)

Thank you! I’ve been using my Mom’s Canon Rebel lately, and it takes such nice pictures I feel like I’m cheating. To be honest, I don’t really know what I’m doing half the time. I usually take my pictures just without flash and on macro/super macro. Sometimes I have to use flash though, which can work sometimes. On my old camera I really liked how pictures of books turned out when I took them on the portrait setting, for some reason. I try to take pictures of books on days when it’s sunny out so the natural lighting in my house is good. I also like taking pictures outside, like in grass. I usually take quite a few pictures of the same thing in as many ways possible to make sure one turns out. And I just use iPhoto to edit my pictures, usually to crop and straighten. I also try to find interesting patterns on sheets, blankets and whatnot to take pictures of books against.
I hope that helps! The first pictures I started taking on blog were rubbish, but I got better over time.
