People need to stop worrying about whether what they're reading is "good" and "literary" and "original" and how they would look to other people if they died in the middle of it, and start worrying more about what a book makes them feel and whether they enjoy it. That's all that matters.
Yeah, I agree. Sadly, a lot of people care a great deal about what other people think and base their reading choices around that, which means you miss out on a lot.
“You can build walls all the way to the sky and I will find a way to fly above them. You can try to pin me down with a hundred thousand arms, but I will find a way to resist. And there are many of us out there, more than you think. People who refuse to stop believing. People who refuse to come to earth. People who love in a world without walls, people who love into hate, into refusal, against hope, and without fear. I love you. Remember. They cannot take it.”
"We should see color. We should see religion. We should see homosexuality. We should see gender identity. We should see all the things that make people and the world different and not pretend that we are colorblind or that one story is enough to represent a whole group of people.
But we should also remember that most people have the same kinds of feelings and wants. Everyone wants to be the hero sometimes."

Less than 8 percent of children's books distributed in the U.S. last year were about black characters, researchers have found
“It’s not just Hollywood and the Oscars. Less than 8 percent of a large sample of children’s books released last year featured stories about black people, according to an analysis by the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Cooperative Children’s Book Center.”

I am 12 and have read TFiOS. :) Yup. Anonymous because I'm afraid people won't socially accept me because of my age. :( which is 12. :( But I love reading. And people say I'm mentally advanced for someone my age. So I have read The Hunger Games, The Mortal Instruments, The Maze Runner, and the like. People also say I'm a very fast reader.
Thanks for your comment! Probably best for you that you’re anonymous because of the whole 12.9 thing on tumblr’s guidelines. Anyways, it’s great that you’re reading so much! TFIOS is amazing and those are all great books!

What exactly do you work in Chapters? Like I wanna work in like helping people find books, shelving or maybe like on the counter?
I have a seasonal position, so I either work on the floor (helping people find books), at cash or in the kid’s section which is helping people find books, cash and wrapping.
"And all the books you’ve read have been read by other people. And all the songs you’ve loved have been heard by other people. And that girl that’s pretty to you is pretty to other people. And you know that if you looked at these facts when you were happy, you would feel great because you are describing unity."

“ A great sorrow, and one that I am only beginning to understand: we don’t get to choose our own hearts. We can’t make ourselves want what’s good for us or what’s good for other people. We don’t get to choose the people we are”
“Not everyone has to be the Chosen One. Not everyone has to be the guy who saves the world. Most people just have to live their lives the best they can, doing things that are great for them, having great friends, trying to make their lives better, loving people properly. All the while knowing that the world makes no sense but trying to find a way to be happy anyway.”
