It’s Banned Books Week! Sept 24th to Oct 1st

The American Libraries Association are holding their 19th annual Banned Books Week and they are inviting the book lovers of the internet to join their Virtual Read Out! I’ll be posting videos through out the week and this blog will more or less be dedicated to Banned, Censored or Challenged books.

I was very lucky to have the freedom to read whatever I wanted to as a child and teen. That’s the driving force for me to join in the celebration; everyone should enjoy the freedom I have.

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by The Story Siren, in which book bloggers post about the books they’ve bought, borrowed or received in the past week.

Some new books! I ordered Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell and you can read the review here. I also bought some used books: The Colour Purple by Alice Walker, Atonement by Ian McEwan and Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. I already own Atonement, but this copy was 50 cents and I prefer it to my movie edition. My brother gave me some of his old books, which you can see here. The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli, No Great Mischief by Alistair MacLeod and Restless Gods by Reginald W. Bibby.

Day 2: Least Favourite Books

Some of my least favourites I had to read for school, so that might be why I disliked them so much. I had to read The Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan for Children’s Lit, and I barely finished it.
I read Breaking Dawn on my own time, and I couldn’t stand it. I’m not going to go to into it, since a lot of what I think has been said a million times, but if vampires do not age at all and humans age at a normal rate, why would a half vampire/half human age so quickly? Am I just being dense and missing something?
Anyways, those are two books I will never reread.

Any Recommendations for Books To Read On My Vacation?

We don’t leave until the 7th, but I’m starting to get organized. I was thinking of road trip books (ones not featured here) or just some general summer reads. We’re driving down to Orlando from Toronto, which is pretty far so I’ll need something to pass the time. Even though it’s sort of irrelevant, I’m pretty sure we’re going to at least pass through Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia and Florida. I’m probably only going to bring e-books and audio books, so unfortunately I won’t be able to take every recommendation. I know I’m going to bring a e-book copy of Last Chance Summer by Morgan Matson. I’ll also hopefully listen to an audio book of Paper Towns, for fairly obvious reasons (Orlando, road trips.) Thanks for your help guys!
